the blog critique

after 13 weeks updating, 11 blog posts and some cool pictures, finally i have to post one last time.. and it's about the blog critique. it's hard to say "au revoir...." to all of my blog readers. i was pleased and satisfied with the blog comments, thank you thank you thank youuu... it's been a great time to share my experiences and stories in this blog for a whole semester. but before i leave, i want to share some of my opinions and point of views about a blog which i think is important for me and the wider community, especially those who love art.

the chosen blog is a blog titled under the fog fog fog. it can be seen at http://potatopolo.blogspot.com/. actually, i have discussed this blog before in a class presentation and i found it useful for everyone who loves art, especially design students in particular, even though i'm a communication student. this blog is important for me, as well as the wider community because it inspires them creating a better art work. everybody knows that art has been developed years by years, and it means that visual images, in any kind of look are very competitive, as well as every people's talent. even though a person has the talent, it doesn't mean that he/she can get the job easily. education is important.

the blog publisher is a design student from indonesia, named angela judiyanto. she is a friend of my friend who has a natural talent i think.. her blog is personality based, because she wants to publish her works and makes a little exhibition through it, so people from anywhere of the world, including the experts can see it. the content is pure art. it's not a diary as well, because it doesn't contain any long stories about her works. for some pictures, yes it does, but just about 5 sentences. from the blog archives, i can tell that this blog has been operating since september 2006. since that month, she has published about 3-5 posts each month, and it is very updated. of course she can't post many posts as she wants, because she's still in college. and for the design students, they need a lot of time to do one big projects.

what i know is her works have been inspired many young students to make an art exhibition like she did last year in jakarta, indonesia. it doesn't impact much society, and not quoted in newspaper or other media as well, but her pictures, posters and designs have attracted many many manyyy people, and they are quiet famous among the teenager societies in jakarta, as well as her simple, yet fantastic blog. why i call it fantastic is because she's very focusing on the content of her blog, not on the design. she uses very simple colors, the grey background, olive yellow font and white lines. those colors really works with her art works which contain mostly all the colors. so when people open her blog, they focus on her works directly..hmmm so did i.. the design and the layout are very simple as well, very well-organized and very easy to be understood. she puts her e-mail under her name, and her friends or work colleagues' blogs also. she divides her art works into three section or folder, so people can enjoy all of those easily (not too much pictures in one window). for the language, she uses english, means that she dedicates her works for people from anywhere of the world.

for the audience, i can't predict how much it is, because she has no any sitemeter or any other rss feed. but, from her message box, there are so many people left their messages for her, showing that they adore and appreciate her works. most of them are come from the teenager societies or design students as well. fortunately, the author doesn't face any censorship or persecution, because the contents are genuine and 100% original. she doesn't even rely on any sources for her blogs. like i said before, the contains are 100% original. that's why i like it because i know that she has put all of her efforts and mind to make her blog successful, as well as her works.

actually, it's a bit confusing to tell either her blog is very subjective or objective, because she doesn't comment her own works. she let people to tell her, to mark her works, so she can make better works. so.. i think her blog is very balance, because it contains both subjective and objective point of view. for people who just like to see her art works, i think most of them are very subjective. on the other hand, for art professional who like her works, i'm sure they will mark it very objective. my prediction is.. of courseeee this blog could become a professional enterprise. just imagine, now she's 20 years old and she's very talented and professional at her field. just wait until 5 or 10 years later and i'm sure she will become much more than this!

the art appreciation

as a person who grew up in a family who has many art activities, i've been use to see my aunties and uncles, even my mother doing some art jobs. my grandfather was a photographer, as well as my mom and my uncle. when i was a child, i always heard my aunt and my older sister playing piano together, almost everyday. and sometimes i saw my cousin doing her painting at our house, and so on. i've been interested about photography since i was in junior high school, and i started to join the photography club in my high school 4 years ago. there, i had to use the single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, or maybe for you who don't know, it's a professional camera, with the big lens in it. of course since it's a digital era now, it's much more easier for me to use the digital SLR camera. but, i didn't use it because my mom said if i want to learn about photography deeply, i have to use the manual SLR camera, so i know the exact measurement. so...yeah, i did what she said. then, i used her camera, the olympus manual SLR camera. hmmm, still in good condition, even though it's old. but it's vintage.. i like it. less than a year ago, i finally bought a canon SLR digital camera, which i think is very wonderful.

since i'm living in sydney, there are many many manyyyy beautiful spots. for instance, i like the rocks and paddington a lottt. i think those two places are very artistic. they combine both ancient and modern landscape. but still..sydney opera house is my favorite. every time i go to the rocks or circular quay, i always went there to shot few spots. i think opera house is fantastic, and i know that i can shot its beauty from different angles..

my parents on their holiday to sydney, july 2007

honestly, i'll never get bored with the opera house, even though my friends who always accompany me there already bored with my habbit hahahhaha. i don't know, i feel something about it, i think the opera house is very artistic in different ways.. and in different angle. well, people's different by the way.. actually, i wanted to take photography course in sydney, before finally chose communication. but then i think that if i go back to jakarta after graduate, the photography field won't be developed as good as communication field. and yes, in photography, if i don't have enough skill and talent, i don't know what i'll become. a freelancer maybe? yeah, everything's sooo blurry and unpredictable. i consider to make photography as my passion and hobby for now, but not as the main major later. well, anyway i love art. i'm sure, without art, any visual image, or even technnology and places will not as good as they are now.

bali nirvana, bali niksoma

who doesn't know bali nowadays? espescially oz people.. bali has been voted as one of the most beautiful, prestigious islands in the world. the beaches, the culture, foods, views are terrific! i lived in bali for 3 years, when i was a child.. but not in the city like kuta, legian, and so on. i lived in a small city in the north shore of bali, and it was wonderful. sometimes i went to kuta beach with my family and built a sand castle over there.. i enjoyed its sunset as well as the sunrise. a couple of times i followed my dad to the beach in the morning, usually at 5 am. there, he rented a boat and asked a fisherman to drive him along the sea to watch the dolphins (but not so far..). i still remember when i watched the dolphins came out from the sea and then jumped over it again.. i also touched a sea star, so cuteee!!! well yeah, i miss those moments a lot because after 3 years me and my family moved to jakarta, a much more bigger city, with its crowd, polutions, people, culture which are different from bali.

bali is also very well-known from its culture. in bali, every family tradition is very patriarchal in some ways. and it is very nice to see the balinese girls wearing their traditional costumes when one of their relatives or friends is married. they look beautiful, elegant, traditional and mature? balinese girls are beautiful. most of them are raised up politely and nice. they also have good physical looks. usually, balinese girls have tanned skins, big eyes, long and straight hairs and thick lips. they usually attract overseas men who came there for holiday. another culture that strikes bali the most is the cremation of died people in the beach. this is very unusual for tourists or even for indonesian people who live outside bali. i remember when i was a child, i watched it. it was soooo scary! there was a man's face, laid down in the box made from bamboo or rotten or whatever.. i forgot. and then the fire just burned his face straight away, and suddenly it was all black, no left. sooo scary yet very unique. and then the family of the man threw his ash into the sea.

and if you're planning to go to bali next time, don't forget about the food!!! hahahaha it's the best of all i think.. the most famous one is nasi campur bali (mix balinese rice) which is my favourite. this traditional dish comes up with white or yellow rice and a mixture of sate lilit (pork balinese satay), ayam betutu (roasted spicy and hot chicken in banana leaf), tumis sayur (spicy vegetables) and rempeyek (peanut cracker). my mom loves this food so much and whenever we went to bali for holiday, it's an obligation for us to take her to a balinese traditional restaurant just to order nasi campur bali. the next one that i suggest you to try is bebek betutu (roasted duck in banana leaf). duck meat's texture is a rather bit harder to chew than chicken or beef. but the herbs and spices can be tasted deeply, even in the deepest meat. the rich flavour of duck is greatly enhanced by a host of pungent roots, herbs and seasonings in this dish which is invariably a great favorite with visitors to bali. the balinese have great admiration for the duck and consider it to be a particularly strong animal as it is like the turtle, one of very few able to survive on land as well as on water.

an electro gathering

hey back again!! last night (friday 10th august) was a very great weekend. why? because me and all my indonesian friends who are currently studying in sydney were spent the weekend together. actually this friendship gathering is usually held every 2 or 3 months, and some people call it "indo nite". i'm not saying it's a routine, but it's a very nice way to gather all the indonesian students in sydney. so yeah, actually i was sick last friday, i had a stomachache because of the period, my face looked pale, but my friends insisted me to go..because she wanted me to attend her farewell party as well.. so yeah, i didn't have a choice. basically, last night's party was named "glow" and it was a very nice party actually. it was located at docks hotel, darling harbour, and i got a guest list..sooo i went there for free hahaha yee-haaaa! i didn't know why last night was soooo hot..geezz..maybe because there were so many people there..so it was quite hard to breathe though.. the party basically started at 10 pm, and yessss because i was a guestlist, i had to arrive before 10.30 pm, otherwise i had to pay $5 for every 30 minutes lateness. d'uh.! the nice thing to see was.. my friend's sister was celebrated her 21st birthday, so she set up the dress code for all of her friends..and the theme was mardi gras! hahaahaahahaa sooo funny... everybody dressed like a police, an indian, a gay, a lesbian, a girl from october festival, even zeus and hera! hahahahaha. the one that attracted me so much was a friend of mine, a boy, who was wearing a mardi gras costume with a fake boobs on his breast...and euwww it was disgusting hahahahah yet funny! i felt quite happy that night although i felt my stomach was crawling inside :(

the party was divided into two section. first was the r&b and hip hop section. the other one was electro/house section. me and my friends went to the second one, of course because we like electro music. so many people i met there.. and there was ardi!! haha yes..ardi, my insearch classmate. gosh, he was crazyyyy! hahaha he was drunk..heavily drunk i guess hahahaha.. because he looked so happy??? and keep smiling and laughing all the time..hahaha i've never seen him that happy before hahaha. honestly, either was i. honestly i didn't want to drink because of my stomach, but my friend looked unhappy.. so i drowned myself to it. hmmm, i drank a lot.. after two months off, i was drunk again..duh! but yeah, that was a nice way to enjoy the music, feel the beat and just dance! you know what, it's very veryyy nice to feel happy all the time, smiling and laughing about anything whether you know what are you talking about or not. ahahahahaha... my sister..oh my sister was terrific. she drank a lottt. gosh..she drank 4 shots of jack daniels, 2 shots vodka.. and still.. some bottles of bacardi breezer. she was really that drunk..it was nice that she didn't puke yesterday..hahaha.. actually she almost did it.. but thank god she didn't.

my sister - bottom right, OMG hahaha she was so drunk.. see her eyes!

at 3 am, the party was over and everybody hadn't satisfied yet.. everybody shouted "we want more.. we want more!!", but the manager told it was over. after me and my friend came out from docks, we felt sooo so hungry!! so we decided to go to the pancakes on the rocks and just eat anything that we want! i ate two pancakes.. just a simple one, with cream and maple syrup.. while the others ate french fries, caesar salad and nachos. hmm yummy! one of my friend puked two times, before and after the pancakes. at pancakes, she drank peppermint tea, just for refreshment.. then she hoped that it was the alcohol that came out from her stomach, but it wasn't.. it was the tea that came out hahahaha..

a weekend in the city

on saturday, 4th august 2007, i had a very pleasant weekend!! me and my friends went to a concert of a band named bloc party at entertainment quarter - fox studios, moore park. it was awesomeeee!!!!! my goshhhh, bloc party is one of my favourite bands ever ever everrrrr!!!! hahahaha i'm just too excited about this.. oh my god.. my god my goddddd!!!!! hahahahaha they were stunning.. they sang their hits song amazingly.. breathtaking.. and all the crowd raised their hands together, felt the beat and just followed the music.. i really felt my soul was out there, and i just couldn't stop dancing..

bloc party concert at entertainment quarter, moore park

unfortunately, i couldn't see them clearly because i sat at the side. me and my friend supposedly stand at the front, but yeah we chose to sit at the side because we didn't want to get hurt because of the mosh-pit. anyway, i was really really satisfied with the concert.. they were very good. i still don't believe that i could see their performance live on stage! hahaha. you know what, it was a blessing.. haha yes indeed! why? because when i wanted to buy their ticket few weeks ago, it's already sold out and i was very disappointed. fortunatelyyyy and thank god for that, 2 days before the concert my friend (who already got the ticket) canceled it because she got to work that day and no excuse from her boss. thennn, she gave the ticket to me and i was like - "what the hellllllll are you seriousss????" hahahaha without taking a long time to think, i said YES OF COURSE!! and yes, i went to bloc party concert.......suddenly.. or should i say accidentally?

guitarist russell lissack - seems that he's pointing his finger on me or what? cool!

after 90 minutes performance, i wanted more and moreee because the time felt soooo short and i was very unsatisfied. so, me and one of my friends were running and waiting in front of the car park where the artists' bus and caravans were parked. that night was soooo coldddd and windy and we had to wait for 1 hour and 15 minutesss before FINALLY the vocalist, kele okereke came out. some people who were also waiting there were shouting loudly "KELEEE!!! KELEEE!!!". and geezzzz a man was stepping on my foot! aaargghhh it was a bit hurt but that was okay. me and my friend couldn't see kele clearly because there were so many people there talked to him and goshhhh they didn't want to go! so, before we lost our hopes, (FINALLY!!!) kele came and talked to us directly!!! aaaaaawwww i've never dreamed about this before! he signed our tickets and cds and my shirt!!!! he signed my shirt!!!!!!! godddd i'm so happy! he asked me, "what's your name?" and i said "dama..". and he said that my name is beautiful. hahahahahahhahahaaa he really said that! well yeah, that was kele who said that. kele from bloc party!!! hahahhaa sorry maybe i'm overwhelming.. but i'm just very happy and feel very enthusiastic about that. what an experience! ONCE IN A LIFETIME...

kele signed my ticket and shirt! his autograph was specially dedicated to me! hahaha..

my dog my love

now i understand why people said "dogs are people's bestfriends" - they are obedient, understanding and always want to be close to their owners.. i have a very cute dog named cikita, ehmm actually it's a south-american name, chiquita.. but i thought it's just too nice for a dog, so i changed the name to cikita hahahahah.. and then i just call her ciki (pronounced: chee-kee). she was born as a mixture of poodle and maltese breed, white, small and very cute! she has become a "trophy" of our family. my uncle gave her to me when she was 3 or 4 months old, and now she's almost 2 years. goshh, she's very cute and i miss her sooo much! my little sister even call her "my angel" - duhh what the hell is that?? in fact, she's very very very naughty and hyperactive. she likes to tear my mother's magazine, hide my mom and dad's shoes and thongs, and even jump to my parents' bed and just sit there.. and yes, believe it or not, she "eats" anything.. tissue, paper, plastic bag, even woods!! haha, i'll never get bored with her.. she makes our family laugh everyday, that's why we love her so much.. she is so stupid (hahahhaah), yet very smart! everytime anyone of us opens the fridge, she's already waiting behind us, hope if somebody gives her apple (yeah, she eats apple everyday as her afternoon snack, instead of dog biscuit, but only 1/4). she likes apple very very muchhh hahahah, i don't know why, maybe because it's crunchy and sweet. and we also give her a little cup of milk everyday, usually around 4 pm (oh man, she's just like a human, isn't she?). she likes it so much, especially when the milk is cold.. she always drinks it until there's no milk left. and one thing, she lovessss to pose! hahaha. since i have the camera and always make her my model everyday, she's always looking for me and pretending that she's curious about the camera (honestly, i don't believe it..haha). well, you can see some of her poses as i show you below :

she's cute, isn't she? anyway, my mom prohibited me and my sisters to own a dog actually, because three of us have asthma, and when ciki came to our house, my mom (basically) didn't agree at all, but because (at that time) i was at my highest level of stress of study (preparing the national high school examination) and i need something to fresh up my mind, so my mom let ciki enters our house and she really made me happy that time...

eurotrip 2003

june 2003 was one of my unforgettable best holiday moment! at that time, me and my family went to europe for 2 weeks, and i was very excited because (yeah..) that was the first time i go to europe, though.. it's such a beautiful continent and i really really would like to go there again someday! first destination, we flew from jakarta to amsterdam, and i have to admit that it was the most painful flight everrrr... because i had to sit for more than 15 hours and i felt like my ass wanted to fall off hahahahaha. but yeah, it was worth it because when we arrived at amsterdam, oh goshh it was so beautiful.. it was summer so we could be tulips and other terrific things that happened that day. we also had a road trip to rotterdam.. similar like venice i guess? hmm not similar, but yeahh you know what i mean.. there's a river in the city and also a boat to catch when people want to go home.. just beautiful!

second destination: italyyy! and it included rome, milan and vatican.. awwww i love rome! this city is so historical.. i love the buildings and other ancient things there.. including the coloseum..great! and oh yes, trevi fountain! my mom said if i put coins into the water of the fountain, i could go back there again someday.. (yeahh it's a belief..) and sure i will! next was milan. hmm, what can i say.. milan is very different with rome. it's a modern city, quite fashionable?, crowded. but i couldn't really "taste" what milan was, because i was sickkk! duhh stupid. last from italy was vatican. you know that vatican is a really small country inside the italy, and it is associated religiously of course. yeah, because we are catholic so my parents would like to go there even for a couple of hours. it was beautiful also, very quiet.. and artistic! we entered the basilica saint peter (usually known as cathedral) and joined a mass there. we also looked at some of michaelangelo's works and i adored it soooo much!!! too beautiful, and it's real.. usually i just see it from the tv and you can imagine when i could touch it by myself.. the sculpture of jesus christ and saint mary..hmmm speechless!

me (at the left) and family - in front of basilica saint peter, vatican

for the next couple of days, we had a very pleasant trip to paris, london and vienna. everybody said that paris is the most romantic city.. and it is! finally i could see the eiffel tower at night and it was just beautiful.. and yes, the nice thing was, when we came to paris, it was the final day of le tour de france.. hahaha you know what is it? it's a bicycle competition.. so the athletes have to compete all around paris (i guess..) with their bikes.. (mountain bikes actually). i think all of parisian were gathered there that day, because it was so crowded.. but yeaahhhhh i was so excited.. hmmm i didn't see lance armstrong passed through unfortunately.. we also had a very very nice experience at the palace of versailles. it was just magnificent! the paintings, sculptures, architecture are beautiful.. actually i forgot what we had been going through that day because the palace is sooo big and so many things that we had seen hahahahaha.. i think i remember that it has 1000 rooms inside it..geez! and yes, i saw the paintings of king louis xvi. hmmm he's not handsome, though.. rather be fat? hahahahha but yeah doesn't matter anyway, just joking..

posing inside the palace of versailles - paris, france

london! london is one of my dream cities in the world. i really want to go there again..hmm lovely.. the one thing that i remember about london was.. (finally) i saw the buckingham palace for real, hahahahhaha duh! well yeah, not so much different with what the tv reports about, just same. beautiful palace, beautiful building and architecture.. and funny guards! hahahaha..you know, people who wearing red suits with furrrryyyy helmets..cool!

last destination: vienna. i didn't know many things about vienna before i came there. i know that it's the capital of austria, but yeah just that, not much. then, i discovered that vienna is very beautiful. different with other european cities, vienna has its own artistic side.. hard to explain, but beautiful. i remembered when we went to salzburg palace and i got lost there. salzburg is the palace which marie antoinette lived before she married king louis xvi of france. anyway, i was so panic hahahahahah because there were so many tourists there. what i didn't know that my older sisterrrrr took a picture of me when i was panic and i looked weird (actually i didn't get lost, she just making "fun" of me)..aaah screw her!
